Luke 4:14-15, John 2:12
Capernaum, Galilee
Though Jesus never stayed long in one place, Capernaum later became the homebase from which they came and went. Nazareth, where he grew up, was a small village while Capernaum was a commercial center on the western coast of the Sea of Galilee.
We know it was already the home of Andrew, Peter, James and John, who fished those waters. Most likely, it was also the home of Phillip and Nathanial. Thus, if so, it was the home of the first six of Jesus’ inner circle.
We have no record of Jesus’ activities between this miracle and the following Passover, when he first cleared the Court of the Gentiles at the temple. Surely, he began to develop some attention in Galilee, but no one records it. It almost seems he spent these six months in private, with little public involvement. During this time, these six may have continued to be involved with him, but not on any permanent basis. They would have continued their regular lives until their call later to become fishers of men.
