Opposition to Come, but the Holy Spirit Promised
John 15:18-16:16

“If the world hates you, know that it hated me before it hated you. If you were of the world, the world would love its own. But, because you are not of the world, though I have chosen you out of the world, the world hates you. Remember what I’ve said to you, that the servant is not greater than his lord. If they have persecuted me, they will also persecute you. Those who keep my teachings will also keep yours. But they will do all these things to you for my name's sake, because they do not know him who sent me.

“If I had not come and told them, they would have no sin. But now, they have no cover for their sin. He that hates me hates my Father also. If I had not done miracles in their presence that no one else did, they would have had no sin. But now, they have seen them, and thus, hated both me and my Father. But this is coming to pass so that the word might be fulfilled that is written in their law, ‘They hated me without a cause.’

“But when the Comforter comes, whom I will send to you from the Father, even the Spirit of Truth which proceeds from the Father, he shall testify about me. And you will also bear witness because you have been with me from the beginning.”

“I have told you these things so you will not be intimidated. They will put you out of the synagogues—yes, the time is coming when whomever kills you will think he has done God a service. They will do all these things to you because they don’t know the Father or me. But I have told you, so that when the time comes you will remember that I warned you ahead of time. I didn’t tell you at the beginning because I was with you.

But now I am going on my path to him that sent me; yet, none of you are asking me, ‘Where are you going?’ But because I have said these things to you, you are sad.

“Nevertheless, I tell you the truth. It is beneficial for you that I go, for if I don’t, the Comforter will not come to you. But if I leave, I will send him to you. And when he comes, he will correct the world’s view of sin, and of righteousness, and of judgment. He will judge it of sin, because they do not believe on me; of righteousness, because I go to my Father and you will see me no more; and of judgment, because the prince of this world is judged.

“I have a lot of other things to say to you, but you can’t bear them now. Nonetheless, when he, the Spirit of truth, comes, he will guide you into all truth. He will not speak of himself, but whatever he hears he shall he say and he will show you things to come. He will glorify me for he will take from what is and show it to you. Everything that the Father has is mine; therefore, I said that he will take from what is mine and show you things to come.

“In a little while you will not see me—and again, in a little while you will see me because I am going to the Father.”
