The Beatitudes
Matthew 5:1-12
And seeing the crowds, he went up on the side of a hill. As he sat down, his disciples approached him. Beginning to speak, he taught them, saying:

“Blessed are the poor in spirit, for the kingdom of heaven belongs to them. Blessed are the ones mourning, for they shall be comforted. Blessed are the meek, for they shall inherit the earth. Blessed are those hungering and thirsting for righteousness, for they shall be satisfied. Blessed are the merciful, for they shall obtain mercy. Blessed are the clean of heart, for they shall see God. Blessed are the peacemakers, for they shall be called God’s children. Blessed are those that have been persecuted for the sake of righteousness, for the kingdom of heaven is made up of them.

“You are blessed, when you are insulted or persecuted When others slander you for my sake, rejoice! Be overjoyed, because your reward in heaven is great. They persecuted the prophets who came before you that way!
