Disciples Fail to Grasp His Coming Departure
John 16:17-22

Then, some of his disciples discussed this among themselves, saying, “What is this that he said, ‘A little while and you will not see me, and again, a little while and you will see me because I go to the Father?’” So, they asked, “What is he talking about ‘in a little while?’ We don’t understand what he is saying.”

Now Jesus knew that they wanted to ask him, so he said to them, “Are you asking each other about what I said—a little while, and you won’t see me, and then, in a little while, you will see me? I tell you the truth, that you will weep and moan, but the world will rejoice.

“You will be sad, but your sorrow will be turned to joy. A woman when she is in labor has sorrow, because her hour has come. But as soon as she delivers the child, she forgets the anguish for the joy over the birth. So, right now, you are sorrowful, but I will see you again. Then your heart will rejoice with a joy that no one can take from you.
