Jesus' Gethsemane Prayers

Humanly speaking, it is easy to understand why the disciples fell asleep, exhausted. Luke, however, adds that their grief over what Jesus had told them was a factor. The previous day would have been full with a banquet just finished. There would have been wine, as well as fatigue, to make them sleepy.

Further, though Jesus had told them he was to be taken away from them, the full ramifications surely didn’t dawn on them.
