Jesus Final Public Instruction

Matthew 23:1-13; Mark 12:38-40; Luke 20:45-47

Monday Afternoon, March 2, 33 A.D.

Temple Courts, Jerusalem

As the afternoon extends, Jesus comes to his final time of public teaching. Having bantered all day with those who had sought to discredit him, he closes his earthly ministry with a condemnation of such attitudes. Mark and Luke give his warning about those who are heartless but still desire a reputation of being righteous.

Jesus ends his discussion with the various groups who have failed to beat him in their debates with anger over their misuse of the law for their own ends. Probably, that anger came with the thoughts of what Israel could have been. He ends his public comments in sadness over their refusal of his offer of care.
