Jesus's Response to the Greeks and the Crowd
John 12:23-33
And Jesus answered them by saying, “The hour has come that the Son of man will be glorified. I tell you the truth, unless a grain of wheat falls into the ground and dies, it resides alone. But if it dies, it produces a great crop.
“He that loves his life will lose it, but he that hates his life lived in this world will live on into eternal life. If anyone serves me, let him follow me, for where I am, my servant will be as well. If anyone serves me, he will be honored by my Father.
“My soul is very troubled. But what can I say? ‘Father, save me from this hour.’ But this is the reason I came to this hour. Father, glorify your name.”
Then a voice from heaven said, “I have glorified it and will glorify it again.” The people in the crowd heard it and thought it had thundered.
Others said, “No! An angel spoke to him.”
Jesus told them, “That voice was not for me, but came for your sakes. Now, this world stands judged. Now, the prince of this world will be removed. And I—if I am lifted up from the earth—I will draw everyone to me.” He said this to show the kind of death he would die.
