Jesus Commends the Widow
Mark 12:41-44, Luke 21:1-4
Mark 12:41-44
And Jesus was sitting by the treasury where he saw how the people were putting their money into the treasury. Many that were rich put in a lot. And a poor widow came and threw in two small copper coins, worth less than a penny.
And he called his disciples to him and said to them, “I tell you the truth, this poor widow has put more in than everyone who has put money into the treasury. All they did was give out of their abundance, but out of her need she gave all she had, even what she needed to live on.”
Luke 21:1-4
And he looked up, and saw the rich men casting their gifts into the treasury. And he also saw a certain poor widow pitching in two small copper coins. And he said, “I tell you the truth, this poor widow has put more than all the rest. They gave to God out of their abundance, but she, though needy, has given everything she had to live on.”
