Jesus Questioned Initially

The high priest asked Jesus about his disciples and what he taught.

Jesus answered him, “I spoke openly to the world. I have always taught in the synagogue and at the temple, wherever Jews gather. I’ve said nothing in secret. Why are you asking me? Ask those who have heard me about what I said to them. Look, they know what I said.”

And when he replied like that, one of the officers standing near him, struck Jesus with the palm of his hand, and said, “Are you going to answer the high priest like that?”

Jesus answered him, “If I have spoken evil, bear witness of the evil. But if well, why did you hit me?”
