Jesus Surrendered to the Mob

Matthew 27:30-32, Mark 15:19-21, Luke 23:26-31

Matthew 27:30-32

And the soldiers spit upon him, and took the reed and hit him on the head. After they had mocked him, they took off his robe and put his own clothes back on him. Then they led him away to crucify him. And as they came out, they found a man of Cyrene, Simon by name, and forced him to help carry his cross.

Mark 15:19-21

They hit him on the head with the reed and spit on him. They bowed their knees and pretended to worship him. When they had mocked him, they took off the purple robe and put his own clothes on him. Then, they led him out to crucify him.

And they forced Simon, a man of Cyrene who was passing by, coming in from the country, to bear his cross. He was the father of Alexander and Rufus.

Luke 23:26-31

As they were leading him away, they forced Simon, a man from Cyrene, who was coming in from the country, to follow Jesus, bearing the cross for Jesus. They were followed by a large number of people, including some women, who were wailing and grieving for him.

Jesus turned to them and said, “Daughters of Jerusalem, don’t weep for me, but for yourselves and your children. Look, the days are coming when people will say, ‘The blessed ones are those who never had children. Blessed are the wombs that never bore and the breasts that never nursed.’ In that day, they will say to the mountains, ‘Fall on us!’ and to the hills, ‘Bury us!’ For if they do these things when the tree is green, what will they do when it is dry?”
