Judas Hangs Himself
Matthew 27:3-10
When Judas, who had betrayed him, saw that he was condemned, repented and returned the thirty pieces of silver to the chief priests and elders. He said, “I have sinned by betraying innocent blood.”
And they said, “What’s that got to do with us? Take care of it.”
He threw the pieces of silver down in the temple, left, and hanged himself.
The chief priests took the silver pieces and said, “It is not lawful to put these into the treasury, because it is blood money.” They discussed it and used the silver to buy the potter's field to bury strangers in. Therefore, that field is called the field of blood to this day.
Thus, the prophecy given by Jeremiah, saying, “And they took the thirty pieces of silver, the estimated value in the view of the children of Israel, and gave them for the potter's field, as the Lord directed me,” was fulfilled.
