Parable of the Fig Tree

Matthew 24:32-51, Mark 13:28-31

Matthew 24:32-51

“Now learn the parable of the fig tree. When its branches are still tender and it starts to have leaves, you know that summer is near. Just like that, when you see all these things begin, know that it is near, even at the door. Truly, I tell you that this generation will not pass away until all these things are fulfilled. Heaven and earth will pass away, but what I tell you shall not. But as to that day and hour, no one knows when it will be, not the angels of heaven, but my Father only.

“But as it was in Noah’s day, so shall the days of the coming of the Son of man be. At the time before the flood, they were eating and drinking, marrying and giving in marriage. It continued until the day that Noah entered the ark. They didn’t know until the flood came and took them all away. It will be that way at the coming of the Son of man.

“Then two will be in the field; one taken, and the other left. Two women will be grinding at the mill; one taken, and the other left. So, watch because you don’t know what hour your Lord comes. But, be sure of this, if the owner of the house had known when the thief would come, he would have watched and his house would not have been broken into. So, be ready, for in such an hour when you don’t expect him, the Son of man will come.

“Who then is a faithful and wise servant, whom his lord has left in charge of his household, to timely feed them? Blessed is that servant if his lord finds him doing that when he comes. I tell you the truth, he will promote him to administer everything he has. But and if that evil servant thinks, ‘My lord is delaying his return’ and he begins to beat his fellow servants and act like a drunkard and glutton, his lord will come in a day when he’s not expecting him. He will cut him asunder, and put him with the other hypocrites. For him, there shall be weeping and gnashing of teeth.
