The Appointment of the Twelve Apostles

Mark 3:13-19, Luke 6:12-116

Mark 3:13-19

And he went up into a mountain, and called his chosen followers and they joined him. He ordained twelve so that they would be with him. He would send them out to preach with power to heal sicknesses and cast out devils. They were Simon, whom he surnamed Peter; James ben Zebedee and his brother, John—he gave them the nicknames of Boanerges, meaning sons of thunder; Andrew, Philip, and Bartholomew; Matthew, Thomas, and James ben Alphaeus; Thaddaeus, and Simon the Canaanite; and Judas Iscariot, who would betrayed him. They left and returned to the house.

Luke 6:12-16

During that time, he went out into a mountain to pray and prayed all night to God. When morning came, he called his disciples to join him and chose twelve, whom also he named apostles. They were Simon, whom he also named Peter, and Andrew his brother; James and John, Philip, and Bartholomew; Matthew, Thomas, and James ben Alphaeus; Simon the Zelot and Judas the brother of James. Last was Judas Iscariot, which was also the traitor.
