Ministry in Tyre and Sidon
Matthew 15:21-28, Mark 7:24-30
Matthew 15:21-28
Then Jesus left and went to the coasts of Tyre and Sidon. And, look! A Canaanite woman came from that area and begged him, saying, “Have mercy on me, O Lord, Son of David. My daughter is tortured with a devil!” But he didn’t say a word to her, even as his disciples came and plead with him, saying, “Send her away. She keeps following us, crying out.”
But he said, “I was only sent to the lost sheep of the house of Israel.”
Then she came and worshipped him, saying, “Lord, help me.” But he answered and said, “It is not proper to take the children's bread, and to give it to the dogs.”
She replied, “That’s true, Lord. However, the dogs get to eat the crumbs which fall from their masters' table.” Then Jesus answered and said to her, “Woman, your faith is great. Be it to you, even as you desire.” And her daughter was made whole from that very hour.
Mark 7:24-30
And he left and crossed over the borders of Tyre and Sidon, where he rested in a house, the location of which no one knew. But he could not be hidden.
A certain woman, whose young daughter had an unclean spirit, heard about him, and came and fell at his feet. The woman was a Greek, a Syro-Phoenician by nationality. She begged him to cast a demon out of her daughter. But Jesus said to her, “Let the children be filled first, for it is not proper to take the children's bread and give it to the dogs.”
But she answered and said to him, “Yes, Lord, but even the dogs under the table eat the children’s crumbs.” And he said to her, “Because of what you’ve said, go your way. The demon has left your daughter.” And when she came home, she found the demon cast out and her daughter in bed.
