Jesus' Baptism
Matthew 3:13-17, Mark 1:9-11, Luke 3:21-23a
Matthew 3:13-17
Jesus arrived from Galilee to be baptized by John at the Jordan River. But John objected, saying, “I need to be baptized by you, yet are you coming to me?” But Jesus responded and said to him, “Allow this because it is fitting to fulfill all righteousness.” Then he acquiesced.
And Jesus, having been immersed, came up out of the water. And look! The heavens opened! And he saw the Spirit of God coming down as a dove, alighting on him. Further, a voice from heaven, said, “This is my beloved Son in whom I am well pleased.”
Mark 1:9-11
And it came to pass in those days, that Jesus came from Nazareth in Galilee, and was immersed by John in the Jordan. And instantly, coming up out of the water, he saw the heavens split open, and the Spirit as a dove coming down on him. And a voice came out of the heavens, saying, “You are my beloved Son. I am well pleased in you.”
Luke 3:21-23a
Now, it came to pass, when all the people were being baptized, that Jesus was also immersed. As he was praying, heaven was opened, and the Holy Spirit descended in a bodily form as a dove resting upon him. And a voice out of heaven was heard, saying, “You are my beloved Son. I am well pleased in you.”
And Jesus, himself, began his calling at about thirty, being supposed the son of Joseph.
