John 1:35-51

Again, on the next day, John stood with two of his disciples. Seeing Jesus as he walked by, he said, “Behold the Lamb of God!” And the two disciples heard what he said and followed Jesus. Jesus, realizing they were following him, turned and said to them, “What are you seeking?”

They said to him, “Rabbi, (which means teacher) where are you staying?” He said to them, “Come and you will see.” Thus, they went with him and saw where he was staying. They spent the rest of the day with him, for it was about mid-afternoon.

Andrew, Simon Peter’s brother—one of the two hearing John’s testimony—followed him. The first thing he did was find his own brother, Simon, and said to him, “We have found the Messiah!” (which the Greeks translate as the Christ.)

He brought him to Jesus, who looked at him and said, “You are Simon bar John. You will be called Cephas (which is translated Peter) meaning a stone.

The next day he wanted to leave for Galilee. Finding Philip, he said, “Follow me.” Now Philip was from Bethsaida, as was Andrew and Peter. Philip found Nathaniel told him, “We have found the one Moses wrote about in the law and the prophets: Jesus of Nazareth, the son of Joseph!”

And Nathaniel said to him, “Can anything good come out of Nazareth?” Philip said to him, “Come and see.”

Jesus saw Nathaniel coming toward him, and said about him, “Look, a true Israelite, in whom there is no guile!” Nathaniel said to him, “From where do you know me?”

Jesus answered and said to him, “Before Philip called you, while you were still under the fig tree, I saw you.” Nathaniel answered, “Rabbi, you are the Son of God. You are the King of Israel!”

Jesus answered him and said, “Because I told you that I saw you under the fig tree, you believe? You will see greater things than that.” And he said to him, “Truly, truly, I tell you, you shall see heaven opened, and the angels of God ascending and descending on the Son of man.”
