Palm Sunday Celebration

The details of John’s record of Jesus entering Jerusalem on a donkey differ from what Matthew, Mark, and Luke recorded. The answer is that they are two different events. There, the celebrants had come from Jericho with him; here, they leave Jerusalem to go meet him. Earlier, late on Friday, Jesus had sent two disciples to get the donkey; here, he found the donkey, himself, enroute to Jerusalem.

John tells us this was the “next day” following the Sabbath dinner for Jesus, which was Friday night. Again, the following Saturday daytime was the same Jewish day that had begun Friday night. Thus, this “next day” was Sunday morning.
