Jesus Clears the Temple

Mark 11:15-18, Luke 19:45-46

Mark 11:15-18

Reaching Jerusalem, he went into the temple and threw those trading in the temple out. He turned over the tables and chairs of the moneychangers and those that sold doves. Further, he would not allow anyone to carry merchandise through the temple courts. And as he taught them, he said, “It is written, ‘My house shall be called the house of prayer,’ but you have made it a den of thieves.”

The chief priests and the scribes heard of this and out of fear looked for a way to kill him because they feared him because of his influence on the crowd who were amazed by him.

Luke 19:45-46

Entering the temple, he began to expel those that traded there, saying. “It is written, ‘My house will be a house of prayer,’ but you have made it a den of thieves.”
