Response to the Announcement

Matthew 26:22-25, Mark 14:19-21, Luke 22:23-30, John 13:22-27

Mathew 26:22-25

They were shocked and sad, and every one of them began to say to him, “Lord, is it I?”

He answered and said; “The one that reaches into the dish with me is the one who will betray me. The Son of man will go according to the prophecies, but woe to that man by whom the Son of man is betrayed. It would have been better for him, if he had not been born.

Then Judas, the one who would betray him, said, “Surely not I, Rabbi?”

Jesus answered, “Yes, it is you.”

Mark 14:19-21

As their sadness increased, they began to ask him, one by one, “Is it I?” And another would say, “Is it I?”

He answered and said to them, “It is the one of the twelve that reaches with me into the dish. The Son of man goes as it is written about him, but woe to that man by whom the Son of man is betrayed. It would have been better for him if he had never been born.”

Luke 22:23-30

And they began to ask each other as to which of them it might be. Contention continued from the earlier discussion as to who should be considered the greatest.

And he said to them, “The kings of the gentiles exercise lordship over them and those who rule them are called benefactors. But that is not how you should be. Let the greatest among you be the youngest and whomever is in charge, let him be the one who serves. For which is greater, the one seated and eating or the one who serves? Is it not the one eating, but I am with you as the one who serves.

“And I appoint a kingdom to you, as my Father has appointed one to me, that you may eat and drink at my table in my kingdom, and sit on thrones judging the twelve tribes of Israel.”

John 13:22-27

The disciples, looking at each other, wondered who he meant. Now, one of the disciples, one that Jesus loved, was leaning back against him. So, Simon Peter motioned to him to ask who he meant.

He then, leaning against Jesus, said to him, “Lord, who is it?”

Jesus answered, “It is the one to whom I will give this morsel when I have dipped it.”

And when he had dipped the morsel, he gave it to Judas Iscariot, the son of Simon. And after receiving the morsel, Satan entered into him.

Then Jesus to him, “What you have to do, do quickly.”
