Jesus Puts to Sea on the Galilee
Matthew 8:18-27; Mark 4:35-41; Luke 8:22-25
Sea of Galilee
Sometime in January-February, 32 A.D.

Strangely, at the time when the day should have been finished, Jesus embarks on the Sea of Galilee. Without any explanation, the disciples go with him. Late at night, trouble in the form of a storm strikes.

Here, we shift to Mark's order of events as our primary source. As previously discussed, Matthew says (in 7:28) that Jesus taught “as one who had authority.” To give proof that he did have all authority, Matthew selects five examples of where Jesus exercised that authority. He rearranges these events into a progression of difficulty, rather than giving them chronologically. His purpose is to show Jesus as the Divine King, rather than stress the order of events.
